Medicines
Project Statement
Outside of my artistic practice I work in the helping industry. This body of work is bringing two arms of my life that I feel very passionate about.
This series focuses on promoting overall positive mental health. Fundamentally, I think of exposure to nature and physical human connection as basic human needs. As we are evolving these elements and appreciation for them are being edited out of basic every day practice. We are becoming physically isolated from some of the basic animalistic elements of our nature .
The imagery that I am creating are based on elements that are "natural medicines." Initially the viewer sees a translucent silk paintings of elements of nature that have medicinal properties. Below the silk paintings are pen and ink drawings of basic human interactions: touch, eye contact, affection. These pieces are inspired by mindfulness practices and intentionally are illustrating the small details of the beauty of a single moment. I want my audience to be captivated by simplicity.
This project is both conceptually and visually still in its beginning stages but I am excited by the direction and intention of this body of work.

Introducing Fine Craft
This past September, I was selected by YES Montreal to participate in their YES! What the Pop event. I pitched my new product: Silk Drawings. The idea of event was to produce work that was financially accessible to a broad market. I have been working with silk since high school but I had never really figured out how to make it a viable part of my art practice. This changed with this event. I love the fun that I can have with the imagery, the diverse audience that reacts positively to the work and ultimately it sparked the idea for my long-term project of "Medicines."
